Hampton Roads Band Promo Photography - Holly Would

John Cachero Photography had the pleasure of shooting the official band promo photos for Holly Would, a Newport News, Virginia-based rock band.

Holly Would recently signed a record deal with One Day Savior Recordings and the label required that they get updated band promo shots before they made the announcement. David, Kevin, and Cory found my portfolio online and called me up. After describing my vision for the shoot (which David - lead singer/guitarist - said, "That's EXACTLY what we had in mind."), they hired me. To complete my vision, I recruited the amazing Kat Marsh, who I'd been wanting to work with for quite some time now.

Virginia Beach Event Photography - D.L. Hughley at the Virginia Beach Funny Bone

John Cachero Photography had the pleasure of photographing D.L. Hughley's comedy set at the Virginia Beach Funny Bone at the Town Center of Virginia Beach.

Fun story:

After I finished shooting wedding portraits in front of the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts of my friend and fellow photographer Swan Vacula, a gentleman approached me on the street and asked, "How much would you charge to shoot D.L. Hughley's show tomorrow night at the Funny Bone?" I said, "Wow. I know he's in town this weekend... is that him over there?" Indeed, it was D.L. Hughley (The Original Kings of Comedy, The Hughleys), sitting outside at a table in front of a restaurant that shared the same courtyard in which I was shooting. I introduced myself, we talked a bit, negotiated a price, and just like that, I was hired to photograph his show the following night. (Quick side note: I was able to intelligently talk about the cigar he was smoking - a Padron box-pressed 1964 Anniversary cigar - because it is also my favorite cigar to smoke.)

The following night, I had complete access around the Funny Bone to shoot his set. D.L. Hughley was hilarious and I knew I had shot a great set for him. Back in the green room we talked like good friends catching up and then he invited me to dinner and drinks with his entourage at Ruth's Chris Steak House before he had to go on for his late show. While at dinner, with no prompting from me, D.L. turned to me and said, "Hey, man. Yesterday, I wasn't looking for a photographer. After I saw you working with that wedding couple, I said, 'That guy knows his stuff. I want him to take photos of ME.'" I graciously thanked him. D.L. Hughley is a class act. (Quick side note #2: I was shooting the couple's wedding portraits pro bono. How's that for karma?)

So here are my favorite photos from that weekend. The first photo is from the wedding portrait set that D.L. Hughley watched me shoot on that Friday. The second photo is a quick portrait I took of D.L. at his table when I met him. The rest is a sample of the set I shot from his show on Saturday night. Enjoy.
