What are you talking about?
What the title of this post says is true... John Cachero Photography is still shooting photos professionally here in Hampton Roads, Virginia.
How is that possible? You never post about photography anymore on Facebook. In fact, the last time you updated your blog was 2012!
You make a good argument. If you've been paying any attention to me, I haven't really posted much about my photography in recent years, but it doesn't mean I haven't been shooting photos professionally. Long story short, I got really busy. Really busy with a full-time day job; really busy photographing events; really busy raising a family; really, really busy editing photos for said events.
So, what happened?
I hit an all-time high for total events in a year in both 2012 and then again in 2013, but I also didn't have enough time to do all those previously mentioned things to the best of my ability. Ultimately, all the areas of my life struggled, personally and professionally. When I wasn't trying to properly raise my baby daughter and trying to have a healthy relationship with my wife, I was busy editing photos... every night after everyone else was asleep. I simply had no time to blog. I simply had no time to properly implement a routine social media campaign. I simply had no time to update this archaic website of mine. I was drowning and my health suffered for it as well. My photography mentor had told me (essentially), "Shit or get off the pot" with regards to quitting the day job and going all-in with the photography business or risk burning out. I burned out.
In 2014 and 2015, I shifted gears with the photography business. Instead of seeking out more business, I was looking to do just enough business to keep the creative fire going while repairing my life at home. My wife gave birth to our second daughter; we bought a new house. I could finally breathe again. I found some balance.
Also in 2014, a new opportunity arose. A good friend and fellow photographer, Ross Costanza, needed a favor... he needed me to shoot a wedding for him. He would handle all of the business side. In fact, he even provided an assistant, his amazing mother Ruby. The shoot went fantastically. The clients loved me (I mean, who doesn't, am I right?), the photos turned out beautiful, and Ruby and I worked great together. After all was said and done, I told Ross, "You know... we could totally do this on a regular basis." We got to talking and -- BOOM -- here is where we are today. I now shoot professionally for Ross Costanza Photography as well as for myself. I also no longer work at a day job.
Cool story, bro. Okay, so you said you've been shooting professionally all this time... where are the photos?
Glad you asked. First, this will be the last blog post from this old website. Starting VERY soon, the new and improved John Cachero Photography website will be up and running. Now, buckle up...
Here is a little bit of EVERYTHING I've photographed since my last blog post in the spring of 2012 up until I joined the RCP team. Enjoy.
